“This experience reminded me of the privilege it is to be in this profession — and how powerful hands-on learning can be.
I’m truly grateful for this unforgettable experience!
Thank you to the incredible team at GXVO and the placement hospital for welcoming me and allowing me to be part of such meaningful work.
This elective has been an eye-opening journey that has broadened my perspective and deepened my passion for medicine. I’ll carry these memories and lessons with me throughout my career.

"I completed my 6-week medical elective in Ghana through the Ghana Xchange Volunteers Organization, and it was an unforgettable experience. I stayed with Theresah and her family, who were incredibly welcoming and made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. The accommodation was clean and well-maintained, conveniently located close to the health facility where I undertook my placement.
The elective itself was eye-opening and enriching. Under Theresah’s guidance, we not only participated in clinical work but also organized a malaria outreach programme that we had fundraised for prior to the visit. This gave me valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of public health in a different context.
Theresah is an inspiring and resourceful leader—always approachable, full of innovative ideas, and consistently available to support us.
Overall, my elective exceeded all expectations, and I returned with invaluable memories and insights that will stay with me throughout my medical career."
