In Ghana, one of the critical challenges facing communities is inadequate access to quality healthcare. Many deaths occur due to poor or delayed medical care, stemming from insufficient staffing and limited resources in health facilities. The GXVO Medical Health Program was established to help bridge this gap by engaging local and international students and volunteers in various health centers and hospitals across the country.
At GXVO, we collaborate with numerous health facilities across districts in Ghana. Students and volunteers are placed on a structured timetable that assigns them to specific hospitals or health centers each day. This ensures efficient deployment of services and supports understaffed facilities, contributing to improved health outcomes in underserved areas.
Our program plays a vital role in reducing poor health conditions that often lead to poverty. Illness significantly lowers productivity, and for many Ghanaians, the cost of treatment for preventable or manageable diseases—such as malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, diarrheal diseases, STIs, and pregnancy-related complications—is a significant burden. By improving access to care, education, and prevention, we aim to reduce morbidity and mortality rates in Ghana.
